Professor Lois Weaver hosts a Long Table for graduates and emerging artists to discuss the future of their creative lives and livelihoods. But what is a long table? A dinner party of course, structured by etiquette where conversation is the only course! The format of the Long Table was inspired by Marleen Gorris’s film Antonia’s Line, in which the protagonist continually extends her dinner table to accommodate a growing community of outsiders and eccentrics until, finally, the table must be moved out of doors. By bridging the gap between public and private discourses, a community is created at the table where participants themselves will moderate conversation, whether by suggesting new topics or supporting less-heard voices.
The Long Table on the Future not only aims to break down institutional barriers to knowledge and offer guidance to aspiring artists, but proposes a platform to explore some of the issues and aesthetics raised by work presented in First Flights.
With special guests Şenay Camgöz and Nando Messias.
