An online gathering on Tuesday 14 June, 18:00 – 19:30, Online via Zoom
Free, but please RSVP
On Tuesday 14th of June, join us for an online gathering with transdisciplinary artistIsaiah Lopaz, as part of LADA’s Intersect series.
Isaiah Lopaz will work with images, methodologies and spiritual altar creations to activate the physical space of the Live Art Development Agency, located at the Garrett Centre. He calls this activation ‘Rigors of (Re)membering’. This work speaks to the simultaneously emotional and physically taxing labour, and liberation of continuing ancestral practices. To commune and deepen cultural kinship with ancestral practices that have been suspended, fractured, forgotten, or disavowed as a result of historical and ongoing colonial violence.
The public will be invited to join in online via Zoom to experience the activation of the space, to witness and engage in dialogue with Isaiah and LADA’s Co-Directors Barak adé Soleil and Chinasa Vivian Ezugha.
Isaiah Lopaz is a transdisciplinary artist who works with photography, text, collage, and performance. Maintaining a socially engaged practice is essential to Lopaz who curates public conversations, facilitates workshops, writes about art and culture, lectures, and is a frequent media commentator. Themes and subjects central to his work include gender, race, sexuality, class, citizenship, Hoodoo, African and Afro-Diasporic histories and cultures. Born into a working class family in occupied Tongva territory in 1979, Lopaz is an African American of Geechee and Indigenous heritage. He identifies as queer and is currently a local of Berlin and Brussels.
Lopaz has performed and exhibited internationally at events and venues such as the 10th Berlin Biennale (Berlin, Germany), the 7th Biennial Afroeuropeans Network Conference (Lisbon, Portugal), Kunstverein in Hamburg (Hamburg, Germany), HAU (Berlin, Germany), and Beursschouwburg (Brussels, Belgium). His work has been featured, amongst others, by the New York Times, CNN, Huffington Post, and ZDF.

About Intersect
Intersect is a series of gatherings, making space for creative communities to share insights into embodied practices that reflect intersectional ways of being. Affirming the ‘liveness’ of the process, each gathering is unique, allowing for the featured participant(s) to co-design how they might imagine what the exchange with those who attend may look like: an embodied dialogue between artists; a sharing of a new experimental work in progress witnessed virtually and/or in-person; or an open forum where key research questions of interest are explored and discussed.
